Our History
Pioneering Excellence Since 1979
Founded in 1979 with a single Piston Beech 18 aircraft, USA Jet (formerly Active Aero) embarked on a journey that has propelled it into the multi-million-dollar organization it is today, marking a legacy of aviation prowess supporting the automotive and manufacturing sectors as their emergency supply-chain partner across North America. Over the years, the airline has soared to new heights, completing an impressive 75,000+ missions and evolving from its humble beginnings into a revered name in the on-demand cargo aviation industry.
In its earlier years, USA Jet operated a diverse Part 135 fleet that included Falcon 20s, Cessna 310s, Learjets, Turbine Beech 18s and King Airs, showcasing even in its early days a versatility and commitment to meeting varied transportation needs. The airline operates from its beautiful home located across several buildings at the historic Willow Run Airport in Belleville, Michigan. As a testament to its dedication to safety and compliance, the airline is certified in the U.S., Mexico, Canada and beyond, boasting a Customs bonded carrier status and holding a hazardous materials MPSC Permit.
As an integral part of the Ascent Global Logistics network, USA Jet has been a leader of the cargo aviation landscape since its inception. Since 1994, the airline has operated both Part 135, adding Part 121 operations, flying DC9s (retired), 727s and in a pioneering move in August 2013, USA Jet Airlines became the one of the first to operate an MD-80 Passenger-to-Freighter conversion, marking a milestone in the cargo market.
USA Jet has continually grown its complete airline infrastructure, establishing a comprehensive maintenance program, a fully stocked parts inventory, an avionics shop, fuel farm, sheet metal shop and a part 145 Engine shop. Supported by a dedicated 24/7/365 dispatch and lift optimization team, USA Jet ensures operational excellence and reliability for every mission undertaken.
The airline has a rich history in supporting the entertainment industry, having provided aircraft for movies like Cedar Rapids and We Are Marshall. From 2004 to 2012, USA Jet also offered passenger services for bands like U2 and Maroon 5, sports leagues like the NHL and NBA, along with travel support of several Big Ten and collegiate sporting teams as part of their esteemed history. Additionally, the airline played a pivotal role in the 2012 presidential campaign, handling the flights for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.
Driven by a commitment to excellence, safety and customer satisfaction, USA Jet continues to lead the way in air transportation, delivering unparalleled service and setting the standard for aviation professionalism.
Rosie's Café: Where good food meets great company
We proudly unveiled the name of our beloved café, inspired by Rose Will Monroe, the iconic riveter from Belleville’s Willow Run Aircraft Factory during WWII. Meals are served twice a week across all shifts, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and collaboration among coworkers.
Reflect on the legacy of Rosie’s Café, a homage to an extraordinary individual who found her love for aviation at 50 and obtained her pilot’s license. This story exemplifies the remarkable determination and spirit that we cherish and celebrate within our workplace community.
